During theIPad week - I found Cnet and PC World to be about 20% good stuff about Ipad and 80% the Ipad is evil.
Now its all about how MS is in the game and only need to rip off IphoneOS and Andriod a little to jump back.
Thank goodness for even handed reporting.
Now hate and anger are 2 different things, lots of the buzz quotes i read i took to heart. i thought i was a techie but if being a tech geek means touting vaperware over real usable items as if your some expert then ill be just an old person instead.
Teaching people to use software you wrote is very different then growing up with the software as second nature. These tech folks do not have much respect for those that came before them , now maybe i just followed the idiots and there is real conversation going on in buzz but at this point it does not matter, its not a useful tool for me.
So when i kept getting chewed on just because i said the Ipad is not a device for the technology set, i was called many things including stupid. Its still going on but i dont see it as i switched off buzz completely.
Maybe its the print graphic design background, but to me unless it’s a fine arts project im doing myself only, its the other guys idea thats important.
The person or corporation that employs u sets their standards which its then up to you to meet. If they have all windows machines you try to enjoy working with Windows, if the have Nix flavors you use those.
I have been carrying my office on my back for 11 years and No one has complained that there pretty asp/.net web site has 100% mac created graphics. Most dont notice or care.
Good work and especially meeting deadlines is way more important then a piece of hardware.

I have flash animations with functionality that were up on the web 2 years before this guy came into the picture. Stop the tit for tat crap.
With the first self hosted DCR docs on the web and much flash development, I luv flash as a API over the clunky director API. But I also use many other tools to create content for clients and myself.
From a Apple point of view - Jobs is right most Flash apps suck - they suck in poor loading screens and can suck memory when poorly constructed. With an plugin or player it is or it is not. There is NO middle ground of some flash and new users hate crashed PCs or locked screens.
I have used Shockwave and now flash to create cross-platform applets because i know the limitation s of each platform (Mac-Windows-Web) not because of the high end options these platforms provide.
From the Aukaurant CDRom(90s) to my Piece on TaintedMedia(2008) the main rule of thumb has been dont use OS specific API calls - (.net anyone) and it just works.
For Alliare to write a several hundred word screed about how he made Flash what it is and bla bla bla. iS just a waste of text space.

I dont think any of that market has seen or used the ipad , the gripes are all from techies who would not need to have a simplified input device to access media and data.
The people i had to write -are you sure this is your choice- prompts for on ASCII input screens in the 80s ARE FAR FROM the small circle of command line zealots crowing about not open , nonmulti process flashlessness.
How many of the millions of Iphone owners are computer programmers and artists - i think a very small percent so Apples money is not going to come from them anyway.
Maybe they are mad Apple did not come out with the haptic magic laptop they hoped the Ipad would be. But the Ipad is not for them and their advice is not of any use.
OMG - you would think Apple pocked the eyes out of some of these folks, with there crowing about the not open Glass screen input device apple just unveiled.
These Media Artists ALSO seem to think Processing is an easy to use program. Well they may be right if you are part of the 2 to 5 percent of the population that has great math skills and art abilities.
Are these the only people that would want to browse Internet media?
Do these artists have an idea of customer service to the general public?
Even with THE NEW Windows 7 GUI the story is its at least as good as Mac OSX not that any ones grandma can use it.
This Ipad thingy, save for a cam is exactly what i thought Apple would give us and it as an Input device will give me more of my PC or Macs desktop for VNC use.

Just a note about the camera missing - ever wonder why the touch has no -Built in cam- either well its not because apple did not not want to put one in - its because ATT did not want to chance a user change to free video chat software. SMS makes to much money for them.

As i was about to convert NCP algorithms from an old game idea to the metaplace coding format i received a email stating that the site would be out of beta soon and as a early adapter tester they would offer me a good price to keep my worlds up. Ouch
Thank goodness i had only done general break downs and had not writtren any meta-code yet!!!!!!!. That is when i stopped using metaplace altogether. The idea of not grandfathering in the main creators of the site is poor business but its even worse when you choose the wrong business model.
The base for free with ads is a proven way to keep your base numbers up and generate revenues. If the users dont want ads or branding then make them pay. But meta place decided it was better to go full subscription for a game world that is 2 generations old.
When nearly every good platformer on PC or console already allows free end user design tools, how could Metaplace think people would play extra for this ability.
Well guess what? Metaplace is closing down and if you worked your ass off to create community objects you are up the creek.
